Dawn had always hated sitting in the darkness of any small room, be it one familiar to her or entirely foreign. She especially hated it when she was forced to against her will.

And now, here she found herself in exactly that position. And there was nothing she could do about it. And to make matters worse, she had no idea how long she would have to sit there. She could not go anywhere because a certain Mr. Joe Plato had handcuffed her to the footboard of the bed and left her sitting there in the dark.

She had been there hours, she supposed. But she could not be sure.

Sitting on the edge of the bed in the dark was bad enough. Handcuffed to the foot of that bed was worse. But what really hurt was the fact that Joe Plato had not trusted her. In spite of what they had just been through together, she was still nothing more than another case he was determined to cash in on.

She tugged on the cuffs, and that pulling made a sound of straining metal. There was no promise of anything breaking. Her wrists began to hurt and she eased back off.

She thought again of what he had said.

He had told her it was for her own good, that he was responsible for her. That he worked better alone, and that where he was going it would be dangerous for her to come along. He had told her that she would be safer here and that going out would put her in danger.

But the truth was that he did not trust her. This was not for her own good. He was not worried for her safety and he certainly was not concerned about defending her from any danger.

The truth was that he had lied.

And so now here she sat, alone, on the bed, constrained by cuffs and in the dark.
